However, it does not allow the license holder to sell the vehicles as a complete vehicle. Auctioning the vehicle or its parts is also not allowed unless the individual obtains a chattel auctioneer license.

What is the eligibility requirement for this license

There are specific eligibility criteria that an individual must fulfil to get a motor dealer wrecker license. Firstly, the individual should have obtained the age of 18 years, at least. The individual should be suitable and eligible for the license.  Lastly, a person must have a registered office.

The license is valid for either 12 months or 3 years. The individual has to renew the license every year or every 3 years, depending on when the renewal notice is scheduled to arrive. The notice is usually sent 6 weeks before the license expires.

Applicants may choose to submit either Form1-1: Application for an individual’s license or Form 1-2:  Application for corporation’s license, as per their requirement.

Your application must be accompanied by the following items:
  • Fee for the use
  • The fee for issuing the license
  • Checking for any sort of criminal history for each person whose date and place of birth appear on the form
  • A certified copy of either your birth certificate, birth certificate extract, passport, Certificate of Australian citizenship or drivers licence. Proof of identity can be verified by a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner for Declarations, barrister/solicitor or notary public. (Note: None of the above required to be provided upon renewal on the requirement that the name the licence was issued in has not changed or unless otherwise requested)

The application and renewal fee are on-refundable. Also, the license cannot be transferred from one person or enterprise to another.

The fee for the license applies to both those who apply for a new license as well as those who want their license to be renewed. Before applying for the license, the applicants can check their criminal history to ensure that they are suitable to apply for the license.
